Lydell Harton, a 48-year-old Black / African American man, was fatally shot in a brazen daylight attack on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, in the Tri-Taylor neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The incident unfolded around 1:20 p.m. in the parking lot of a White Castle restaurant located at 2356 West Roosevelt Road. Harton and two other men were sitting inside a vehicle when they were ambushed by three gunmen who approached on foot and opened fire.
The assailants unleashed a barrage of bullets,
with investigators later finding between 25 and 30 shell casings scattered across the parking lot and drive-thru area. The sheer volume of gunfire caused the victims' vehicle to erupt in flames. While one of the men inside was able to escape the burning car, Harton and another man were not. Harton was struck in the chest and was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A 35-year-old man was also killed in the attack and was pronounced dead at the scene. The third victim, a 44-year-old man, suffered a gunshot wound to the back and was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
Following the shooting, the three suspects, described as three Black males, fled the scene in a gray Dodge Durango. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the murders. The Chicago Police Department's detectives are actively investigating the case. A $10,000 reward has been offered by Crime Stoppers for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individuals responsible for the deaths of Lydell Harton and the other victim. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to seek justice for the victims and their families.
