In the early morning hours of January 8, 2026, Alfred Webster Hyams, a 27-year-old man, was fatally shot at his residence in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, marking the city's first homicide of the year. The incident occurred around 8:32 a.m. at an apartment complex on Alaska Street. According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, Hyams was involved in a domestic-related physical altercation that escalated, resulting in him suffering a gunshot wound.
