An 18-year-old Hermiston resident, Cristian Lucas Juan De Dios, born on July 22, 2007, in Hermiston, Oregon, tragically lost his life on January 9, 2026. He was a senior at Hermiston High School. Described as a bright and beautiful soul, he was a proud uncle who shared a special bond with his nephew. He had a passion for rapping and music, which he used to express himself and connect with others.
Known for his goofy personality that could make anyone smile, he was also respectful, kind, and full of love. He leaves behind seven siblings.
On the evening of January 9, a physical altercation occurred in the parking lot of Butte Park. Cristian, along with two of his friends, was involved in a fistfight with three other males. The situation escalated tragically when Cristian was shot in the midsection. He was quickly transported to Good Shepherd Health Care System, but succumbed to his injuries during surgery. The Hermiston Police Department notified his family of his passing around 2 a.m. the following morning.
The Umatilla County Major Crime Team was activated to investigate the homicide. According to police, all individuals involved in the altercation were known to them. The investigation, which included multiple search warrants and the collection of significant evidence, led to the arrest of a 15-year-old male from Hermiston on January 13. He has been charged with Manslaughter in the First Degree and reportedly had no prior criminal history in the area. Some reports indicate the suspect is 16 years old. In total, five individuals, four of whom are juveniles, have been arrested in connection with the incident. The case is now with the Umatilla County District Attorney's Office for charging decisions. Court documents revealed that prior to the fatal fight, a 19-year-old had threatened a younger teen with a gun at a residence, which appears to be connected to the events that transpired at Butte Park.
