On the evening of Sunday, November 30, 2025, the celebratory atmosphere of a Second Line parade in the Central City neighborhood of New Orleans, Louisiana, shifted abruptly to tragedy when gunfire broke out shortly after the procession had moved through the area. Destiny Dunn, a 26-year-old Black woman originally from Baton Rouge, was seated in the driver's seat of an SUV parked near the intersection of Magnolia Street and Washington Avenue when the shooting occurred.
The incident took place around 5:17 p.m., just hours after the "Original Lady & Men Buckjumpers" club had finished their annual parade, a cultural tradition that draws large crowds to the streets.
Multiple bullets struck the vehicle, fatally wounding Dunn as she sat inside. Emergency medical services rushed her to a nearby hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries shortly after arriving. The barrage of gunfire also struck two other bystanders in the vicinity—a 16-year-old boy and a 29-year-old man. Both surviving victims were transported to medical facilities where they were treated for their wounds and listed in stable condition. The violence sent families and parade-goers fleeing for cover, disrupting what had been a joyful community gathering.
As of early December 2025, the New Orleans Police Department had not made any arrests or named specific suspects in the case. Investigators publicly suggested that the triple shooting might have been retaliatory or connected to a fight that broke out earlier that afternoon near the parade’s conclusion point at the Dew Drop Inn. Authorities continued to appeal to the public for video footage or testimony that could help identify the perpetrators responsible for the shooting.
