On the afternoon of December 13, 2025, authorities in McHenry County, Illinois, responded to a call for a well-being check that led to a grim discovery at a rural property near Harvard. Deputies from the Sheriff's Office, alongside the Harvard Fire Protection District, arrived at the home on the 4500 block of Island Road around 4:45 p.m. Inside the residence, they found 65-year-old Italian Santina Perri deceased from a fatal gunshot wound.
Also present at the scene was her husband, 75-year-old Silvano Perri, who was suffering from serious injuries resulting from what investigators determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The initial investigation revealed that the couple, who primarily resided in Itasca but owned the Harvard property, had been married for nearly 50 years and were weeks away from celebrating their golden anniversary. Following the discovery, Silvano Perri was airlifted to a Level 1 trauma center for urgent medical treatment. Upon his release from the hospital, he was taken into custody and transported to the McHenry County Jail. Authorities established that the incident was isolated and domestic in nature, assuring the community there was no broader threat to public safety.
Prosecutors subsequently charged Silvano Perri with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with his wife's death. During his initial court appearances, he appeared with visible injuries to his face and reportedly spoke in a whisper.
