On the night of December 20, 2025, deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded to a medical aid call that led to a tragic discovery at a residence in Adelanto, California. At approximately 9:40 p.m., authorities arrived at the home located in the 10700 block of Bonanza Road, where they found two unresponsive individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate response of emergency medical personnel, both individuals were pronounced deceased at the scene. The victims were identified as 22-year-old female Shyla Powell, a resident of Lancaster, and 23-year-old male Tyreek Moore, a resident of Adelanto.
Detectives from the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division, specifically the Homicide Detail, assumed control of the investigation to piece together the events leading up to the violence. Through their inquiries, investigators learned that Powell and Moore had been involved in a verbal altercation earlier that day. The dispute appeared to have escalated inside the residence, culminating in the fatal shooting. Evidence at the scene painted a clear picture for the authorities, who located a firearm positioned near Moore’s body.
Based on the physical evidence and witness information regarding the prior argument, officials determined the incident to be a murder-suicide. The investigation concluded that Moore fatally shot Powell before turning the weapon on himself. Because the sole suspect in the killing is deceased, there were no arrests made in connection with the case, and authorities are not looking for any additional suspects. The case has been effectively closed as investigators finalized their findings that Moore was the sole perpetrator responsible for Powell's death.
