On the night of Sunday, December 21, 2025, 18-year-old Michael Ramos Jr., a male resident of Yucca Valley, California, was fatally injured during a violent incident at a house party. Deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded to reports of a shooting in the 57000 block of Chipmunk Trail at approximately 9:51 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Ramos suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital in grave condition, where medical professionals later determined he had no brain activity. Although the incident occurred on the 21st, reports indicate he remained on life support until Friday, December 26, when he was taken off assisted care and succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation revealed that the shooting stemmed from a verbal altercation during the gathering. Witnesses and authorities stated that Ramos, a recent high school graduate and former quarterback for Yucca Valley High School, had attempted to intervene and break up a fight between other attendees when the violence escalated. During this confrontation, a suspect identified as 29-year-old Nicholas Daniel Lee, also of Yucca Valley, allegedly produced a firearm and shot Ramos before fleeing the scene.
Law enforcement launched an immediate search for the gunman, utilizing the Sheriff’s Aviation Division to canvas the area. Nicholas Lee was located hiding nearby and was taken into custody without further incident. He was initially booked at the West Valley Detention Center on suspicion of attempted murder, with bail set at $2 million. Following the deterioration of the victim's condition and subsequent death, authorities announced that the charges against Lee would be amended to murder.
In the hours following the initial response, deputies made a second arrest in the vicinity. At approximately 1:00 a.m. on Monday, less than a quarter-mile away on Turner Road, officers encountered two men fighting. One individual, identified as 26-year-old Hector Aviles, was arrested on suspicion of battery. However, investigators quickly determined that this altercation was unrelated to the shooting on Chipmunk Trail. Aviles was booked into the Morongo Basin jail and later released.
