On the evening of December 25, 2025, 36-year-old female Octavia Stewart was fatally shot during a confrontation at an apartment complex in Lauderhill, Florida, just west of Fort Lauderdale. The incident occurred shortly before 10:30 p.m. at the Sunny Lake Apartments located near the 2200 block of Northwest 56th Avenue. Residents in the area, who were enjoying holiday gatherings in the parking lot, reported hearing a loud noise resembling an explosion as the situation escalated.

to witnesses and preliminary investigation details, the violence stemmed from an ongoing dispute between neighbors that had begun earlier in the day, reportedly over a parking spot and other grievances. Ring camera footage recovered from the scene captured the altercation, depicting a woman brandishing a firearm during the heated argument. The confrontation ultimately ended in gunfire, sending bystanders fleeing for safety. When police arrived, they found Stewart suffering from gunshot wounds, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
