On the morning of November 23, 2025, Leotis James Breedlove Jr, a 33-year-old Black/African American man, was shot multiple times outside a residence on the 200 block of Northwest Second Way in Deerfield Beach, Florida. Broward County Regional Communications received reports of gunfire at about 10:22 a.m., prompting Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue to respond to the scene.
When they arrived, they found Breedlove lying outside the home with several gunshot wounds. Paramedics initiated emergency care and transported him to Broward Health North, where he was later pronounced dead from his injuries.
Neighbors told reporters they heard an argument followed by multiple gunshots coming from a nearby home just before deputies arrived. A dispatcher’s radio traffic captured that people in the area reported active gunfire and believed it was coming from a neighbor’s house. Responding deputies quickly secured the block, ordered residents back inside for safety, and worked alongside fire rescue crews as they tried to save Breedlove’s life. The shooting, which happened days before the Thanksgiving holiday, left witnesses shaken; local coverage described a neighbor seeing him lying unresponsive in the front yard while another person screamed for someone to call 911.
According to BSO, the shooter fled the scene immediately after the attack, sparking an intensive search. Homicide detectives from BSO’s Homicide Unit, assisted by the agency’s Threat Intervention Tactics Analytics Network used witness information and other investigative leads to identify a suspect. Both the victim and the suspect were listed as living at the same address on Northwest Second Way, indicating they were neighbors. Later that day, investigators located 32-year-old Deerfield Beach resident Jarvis Chinn near the 200 block of Northwest 30th Avenue in Pompano Beach. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
Authorities have said that Chinn faces one count of first-degree murder with a firearm in connection with Breedlove’s killing and is being held in jail, reported as without bond, while the case proceeds. Law enforcement statements describe him as the person they believe is responsible for the fatal shooting, but they have not publicly released any information about a possible motive or the nature of any dispute that preceded the gunfire. As of the most recent reports, investigators have not announced any additional suspects or arrests, and the Broward Sheriff’s Office has indicated that the homicide investigation remains active.
