Jason Scott, a 37-year-old male died on November 23, 2025, after being shot in Pike County, Ohio. Memorial records list him as a resident of Waverly and note that he was lost to gun violence on that date.
On that Sunday morning at about 8:25 a.m., Pike County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence at 425 Curtis Lane for a reported shooting. According to the sheriff’s media release, the caller reported that Jason L. Scott had been shot in the head.
When deputies arrived, they found him gravely wounded, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Law enforcement quickly identified a suspect: 40-year-old Christopher L. Barfield of Waverly, Ohio. The initial report to authorities stated that Barfield was the person who shot Scott in the head before fleeing the scene. Deputies from the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by Piketon police, located Barfield in the area of Curtis Lane shortly afterward, took him into custody, and transported him to the sheriff’s office for questioning.
Following that interview, Barfield was formally charged with aggravated murder and transferred to the Ross County Jail, where he is being held. The Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation was called in to help process the crime scene, and Barfield is expected to appear in Pike County Court for further proceedings. As of the latest public reports, authorities have not provided an explanation of what led to the shooting, and the case remains in its early investigative and court stages, with no additional suspects publicly identified.
