A nearby 7-year-old boy, who was innocently riding in a car with his family, was also struck by the gunfire.
Police and emergency responders arrived to a grim discovery. Both Brooks and the young child were suffering from gunshot wounds. They were quickly transported to area hospitals for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Tyree Brooks succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead, just one month shy of his twenty-third birthday.
