In the early hours of an October 2025 morning in a Buckhead apartment complex, a domestic dispute escalated into a fatal encounter between a father and son. The deceased, a 32-year-old man named Durante Schofield, was shot and killed by his own father, 54-year-old Durante Tolliver, also known as Durante Rowe-Tolliver. The tragic events began to unfold following a car accident involving Schofield, who then called his girlfriend for assistance.
After his girlfriend picked him up, an
argument erupted between them at their apartment on Pharr Road. Schofield's girlfriend, who is reportedly an employee of the Fulton County Marshal's Department, called both the police and Schofield's father, Durante Tolliver, to the scene to help de-escalate the situation. When officers arrived around 12:22 a.m., they spoke with the girlfriend. Tolliver also arrived and, after a seemingly calm conversation, he and his son left the apartment together.
The situation took a deadly turn in the parking lot. As Schofield and his father were about to leave in Tolliver's vehicle, an argument broke out again, reportedly after Schofield slammed the car door. Tolliver later told police he believed his son was reaching for a weapon in his waistband and, fearing for his life, he fired approximately 12 shots at his son. Schofield was unarmed. Officers who were still at the scene heard the gunshots and found Schofield, who was pronounced dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
Durante Tolliver was arrested at the scene and has been charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. A judge subsequently denied him bond. Schofield was remembered by his family as a proud father of two, an entrepreneur who worked as an independent contractor, and a passionate person who cared deeply for others. His girlfriend was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
