Rachel Counts, a 23-year-old White woman, was at a home on Kings Run Court in Cincinnati’s Winton Hills neighborhood on the night of October 5, 2025. According to prosecutors and news reports, she was spending the evening playing cards with friends, including a 23-year-old acquaintance named Omarion Horne. An obituary later identified the victim as Rachel Nicole Counts Brooks and noted she was survived by her husband and other family members.
The friendly gathering turned tragic when
Horne allegedly produced a revolver. Prosecutors said he removed all but one bullet from the gun's cylinder, announced, “let's play Russian roulette,” and briefly pointed the weapon at his own head. He then aimed the revolver at Rachel and pulled the trigger. The gun fired, striking her in the chest.
Cincinnati police were dispatched to the home around 10:45 p.m. for a report of a person shot. When they arrived, officers found Rachel suffering from a serious gunshot wound. Firefighters attempted life-saving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The following day, police arrested Omarion Horne and charged him with murder. During his arraignment, Horne reportedly cried as the prosecutor described the deadly game. A judge set his bond at $1 million while the case proceeded through the Hamilton County court system. On July 31, 2026, Horne pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of involuntary manslaughter. For his role in Rachel’s death, he was sentenced to serve between 10 and 14.5 years in prison. The case was closed with his conviction in July 2026.
