In the quiet town of Uniontown, Alabama, a young life was abruptly cut short on the evening of October 12, 2025. Shermain Cain, a 21-year-old male, was found unresponsive inside his vehicle, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound. The incident occurred in the shared parking lot of a Dollar General and Jones Lounge, a detail that painted a stark contrast between everyday errands and sudden violence. Emergency services were called to the scene between 6:30 p.m.
and 7:00 p.m., but their efforts to save the young man were in vain.
The investigation into the death of Shermain Cain was a collaborative effort, bringing together the Uniontown Police Department, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, and the 4th Judicial Circuit Task Force. Investigators began to piece together the events of that evening, interviewing several individuals in connection with the shooting. Their work led them to two teenage suspects, 18-year-old Jayelynn Cole and 19-year-old Martrell Carlisle.
