John Myers, 63, male, was gravely wounded in a shooting outside his home on the 100 block of Starling Avenue in the Village of Royal Palm Beach shortly before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. Deputies arriving at the scene found two vehicles facing the same direction—one in the roadway and one along the swale—and two men shot inside their respective vehicles. Myers was taken to a hospital and died of his injuries two nights later, on Thursday, October 16. Detectives later identified the other man at the scene as 65-year-old Randy Parnell, who was found dead in his truck.
Investigators determined that Parnell was the aggressor. Neighbors and surveillance video described an ambush: a white pickup idled a few houses away until Myers pulled up, at which point the truck drew alongside and gunfire erupted. Myers returned fire before collapsing outside his car as a neighbor rushed to help. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office has not established whether Parnell's fatal wound was self-inflicted or caused by return fire, and the motive for the attack remains unknown.
Both men were longtime Palm Beach County government employees. County officials confirmed that Myers served as an assistant superintendent in the Engineering and Public Works Department's road and bridge division, with more than four decades of service, while Parnell worked as a bridge tender. The sheriff's office publicly identified both men on October 17, 2025, as the investigation continued.
No arrests were made because the identified aggressor died at the scene. Authorities have not announced any additional suspects. The case remains an active homicide investigation as detectives work to determine the events and motive behind the ambush that led to Myers' death.
