Jacqueline Medrano, 45, a woman, was shot and killed on the evening of October 14, 2025, inside Gui Gui 9292 Korean BBQ on West Imperial Highway in La Habra. Police and paramedics arrived within minutes and found Medrano and a man with gunshot wounds; both were pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators quickly identified the man as Jonathan Wang, 35, and determined the shooting to be a targeted attack in which Wang shot Medrano before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities said there were multiple witnesses in the busy restaurant but no additional injuries, and they emphasized there were no outstanding suspects or threat to the public. Medrano was identified as a Covina resident.
In the months leading up to the killing, the relationship between Medrano and Wang had drawn the attention of law enforcement. Long Beach police arrested Wang on July 15 after a domestic violence report, and prosecutors filed a case alleging he willfully injured Medrano. On September 16, a judge issued a criminal protective order barring him from contacting her and prohibiting firearm possession; that order remained active at the time of the shooting, and Wang was due back in court in November for a pre-trial conference.
Friends and colleagues remembered Medrano as a devoted mother of two and a dedicated urology nurse who kept working despite ongoing harassment, gathering later for a vigil to honor her life. The police update confirming the murder-suicide concluded with a request for witnesses to contact detectives, underscoring that investigators had no indication of additional suspects.
