Kearon Deon Taylor, 16, a Black male, was shot on the evening of Wednesday, May 21, 2025, in the 3800 block of Great Basin Lane in south Fort Worth. Police were called around 8 p.m. and found him inside an apartment where he died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to information drawn from police and medical examiner records reported by local outlets.
Detectives learned the confrontation began outside the complex and was tied to gambling; after the gunfire, the teenager ran into an apartment while the shooter fled on foot.
Weeks later, investigators named an 18-year-old suspect, Lamonte Roussell, who was arrested on June 24 and booked on a capital murder charge. Police said Taylor and Roussell had been gambling when Roussell allegedly pulled a handgun and opened fire, after which he ran from the scene. An arrest affidavit described a dice game in a breezeway and alleged the gun was held to the back of Taylor's head before the shooting. Authorities noted that Roussell was expected to be transferred from the Fort Worth jail to the Tarrant County facility after his booking.
