In the small community of Keyser, West Virginia, the life of 46-year-old Mark Myers was brought to a tragic and violent end on May 18, 2025. On that Sunday, deputies were dispatched to a residence on Shaw Road in the Beryl area, just outside of Keyser, following a distressing 911 call. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mark Myers, a male, on the front porch of the home with a fatal gunshot wound to his upper back.
The 911 call that alerted authorities to the scene was made by Mark's
own brother, 67-year-old Michael Wayne Myers. In a chilling admission to the dispatcher, Michael stated that his brother had been shot and was deceased. When questioned if the wound was self-inflicted, he cryptically replied that he would explain when law enforcement arrived. Once on the scene, Michael Myers allegedly confessed to the deputies, stating that he had fired an 8mm Mauser rifle from the stairs inside the residence, striking his brother as he stood at the front door.
Investigators found no weapon near Mark Myers' body, and the scene on the porch indicated where he had fallen. Michael Wayne Myers was taken into custody that day and subsequently charged with murder. He was booked into the Potomac Highlands Regional Jail and held without bond. During interviews with investigators, he claimed that he and his brother had been living together and that he believed Mark intended to kill him, describing himself as feeling "like a prisoner" in his own home.
Further investigation into Michael Wayne Myers' background revealed a dark history. It was reported that he had previously been convicted of second-degree murder for the 2014 killing of his wife, for which he had served a decade in prison. This prior conviction added a grim layer to the unfolding tragedy of his brother's death. The community was left to mourn the loss of Mark Myers, who was remembered as a laborer and was survived by another brother and several nieces and nephews. At his request, he was cremated, with a memorial service to be held at a later date.
