On what began as a tranquil Monday morning in the close-knit Adena Village neighborhood of Mount Carbon, West Virginia, a sudden act of violence irrevocably altered the community. John Michael “Otter” Middleton, a 49-year-old White/Caucasian male, was fatally shot on August 18, 2025.
