On September 14, 2025, deputies with the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched at 7:51 p.m. to a residence in the Derby/Derbie Road area of Gretna, Virginia, where they found Cynthia Rowland, age 64, a female, deceased from what appeared to be a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene and later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Roanoke for autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
