On the evening of September 8, 2025, 40-year-old Vernelle Wright, a male from Little Elm, was at a football watch party in the Paloma Creek neighborhood when a dispute flared and spilled out into the street along the 2300 block of Okeefe Drive. Just after 9 p.m., gunfire erupted. First responders found 40-year-old Vernelle Wright wounded; he was taken to Baylor Scott & White Hospital, where he was pronounced dead later that night.
