A woman is found dead in a wooded area near Hume Brook Arlene Clevesy, a 48-year-old woman from Haverhill, Massachusetts, was found murdered on June 4, 1972, near Hume Brook in Newton, New Hampshire. Her body was discovered face down in the water, and the cause of death was ruled as traumatic asphyxia combined with drowning. Clevesy had last been seen the night before at a local bar, where she stayed out later than her husband, Harold Clevesy, who became concerned when she didn't return home the next morning.
Investigations initially yielded
little progress, and the case went cold for decades. In 2015, the New Hampshire Cold Case Unit reopened the investigation and identified Albert Francis Moore Jr. as the prime suspect. Moore, who had previously been convicted of another murder in 1972, was implicated through witness statements and his own partial confessions. However, Moore passed away in 2019 while serving a life sentence, and no prosecution could take place. In 2022, authorities officially closed the case, concluding that Moore was responsible for Arlene Clevesy's death.
