On the night of October 3, 2025, a violent confrontation tragically cut short the life of 21-year-old Aaliyah Simmons, a White female from Woodruff, South Carolina. Just before midnight, Spartanburg County deputies were dispatched to a residence on Blue Gill Way following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Simmons with a gunshot wound to her chest.
Despite immediate medical intervention, her injuries proved fatal, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators pieced together the events leading to the fatal shooting, revealing that two individuals, 19-year-old Angel Marie Willis and 24-year-old Jorge Armando Cano Jr., had arrived at the home with the intention of engaging in a physical altercation with a friend of Simmons. During the ensuing confrontation, Willis allegedly shot Simmons. The investigation, which included interviews with multiple witnesses, led to the swift apprehension of the suspects.
On October 4, 2025, both Angel Marie Willis and Jorge Armando Cano Jr. were taken into custody. Willis was charged with murder, while Cano faced a charge of accessory after the fact. Following their arrests, both were held at the Spartanburg County Detention Facility. During a subsequent bond hearing, a judge denied bond for Cano. Due to the nature of the murder charge against Willis, the judge was unable to set her bond. The case remains an active investigation by the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office.
