Jesse Anderson, a 32-year-old Black man from Cleveland, was killed in a shooting on July 26, 2025. He was found near a restaurant parking lot on Cleveland’s West Side, and his death was investigated as a homicide. Public gun-violence records also identify Anderson as having been fatally shot in Cleveland that day.
For more than a year after Anderson’s death, the case remained without a publicly announced arrest.
That changed in September 2026, when authorities arrested Jerome Henderson, a Maple Heights resident, in connection with the killing. Henderson was taken into custody on September 1, more than 13 months after Anderson died. A Cuyahoga County grand jury subsequently indicted Henderson on charges of aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault and having weapons while under disability.
Henderson appeared in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court and pleaded not guilty to the charges. Judge Mollie Ann Murphy set his bond at $1 million and ordered him to have no contact with Anderson’s family while the criminal case proceeded. Defense attorneys Mary Jo Tipping and Scott Ramsey were appointed to represent him. The case was scheduled to move into pretrial proceedings later in September 2026.
The publicly available reporting has not explained what evidence eventually led investigators to Henderson after more than a year, nor has it disclosed a suspected motive or described any relationship between Anderson and Henderson before the shooting. No additional suspects have been publicly identified in the available reports. Henderson’s arrest and indictment therefore represent the principal development in the investigation, but the allegations against him remain unproven unless established in court. As of the latest publicly available reporting located for the case, Henderson had pleaded not guilty and there was no reported trial verdict or conviction in Anderson’s killing.
