In the late summer evening of August 17, 2025, a young White/Caucasian man's life was cut tragically short in a remote area south of Estacada, Oregon. Szachary Tyler White, a 21-year-old male from Vancouver, Washington, was with others at an informal "shooting pit" near Six Tie Road and Forest Service Road 4510, a location often used for recreational target practice on public land. It was here that he sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound under circumstances that remain under investigation.
In the critical moments following the shooting, just before 8:15 p.m., a call for help was made to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office. Rather than wait for first responders to navigate the rugged terrain, companions of Szachary placed him in a private vehicle and began a frantic drive toward medical assistance. Deputies intercepted the car on South Hillockburn Road and immediately started rendering aid until paramedics arrived and took over the life-saving efforts.
A Life Flight helicopter was dispatched with a plan to meet the ambulance at the Estacada Fire Station for a rapid airlift to a hospital. However, the severity of Szachary's injury was too great. Despite the desperate attempts to save him, he succumbed to his wound before he could be transported by the helicopter. The Clackamas County Medical Examiner's Office was tasked with determining the official cause and manner of his death.
The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office has been investigating the incident since that evening. While they have stated they do not believe there is any ongoing danger to the public, the case remains an active and open investigation. To date, authorities have not publicly identified any suspect or suspects in connection with the shooting, and no arrests have been announced.
