In the early hours of a Monday morning in Stillwater, Oklahoma, the life of 38-year-old Vanessa Henry was tragically cut short. On July 28, 2025, police responded to reports of gunfire in the 200 block of W. Elm Avenue at approximately 1:14 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene with three victims. Vanessa Henry and Andrew Rice, 35, were both found deceased inside an apartment.
A third individual, Carman Murphy, 34, had sustained at least one gunshot wound but survived the attack and was transported to a hospital in stable condition.
The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Theodore DeMarrio McCloud of Langston, had fled the scene before officers arrived. A search for McCloud ensued, and he was later located by Langston University Police Department officers at a residence in Langston. As officers approached, McCloud exited a vehicle and fired multiple shots at them. One of the officers returned fire. Following this exchange, a perimeter was established with the assistance of multiple agencies, and McCloud was eventually taken into custody without further incident.
Subsequent reports revealed that Vanessa Henry and Andrew Rice were siblings. The investigation into the motive for the double homicide is ongoing, with charges to be presented to the Payne County District Attorney's Office. McCloud, who has a prior criminal record, was initially jailed on a $10 million bond for the charges related to shooting at the Langston University police officers. The weapon believed to have been used in the Stillwater homicides, a black Sig Sauer semi-automatic handgun, was reportedly found in the laundry room of the residence where McCloud was arrested.
