A teen is killed during a gas station robbery On a cold winter evening in Peterborough, New Hampshire, 17-year-old Craig Lane, a Caucasian male, was working the night shift at a Texaco gas station on Route 202. It was Sunday, January 8, 1989, and at approximately 5:30 p.m., the course of that evening took a tragic and violent turn. During what appeared to be a robbery, an assailant entered the gas station and attacked the young man.
The perpetrator stabbed Craig multiple times in the neck before stealing money from the station and
fleeing the scene. Witnesses, including a man and his young daughter who had stopped for gas, saw a person running away from the station and heading down a nearby remote path. This detail led investigators to believe the suspect was likely familiar with the local area.
Despite the presence of witnesses, the case has remained unsolved for decades. The suspect was described as a white male in his late teens to early twenties, standing approximately 5'10" tall with a slim to medium build. He had brown, medium-length hair and was reportedly wearing a red jacket with a blue stripe around the chest, blue jeans, and a dark baseball cap. A composite sketch of the suspect was created and circulated, but no arrests have ever been made in connection with Craig Lane's murder. The investigation into his death is considered a cold case, a source of ongoing pain for his family who still seek answers and justice for the loss of their son.
