On a Saturday evening in Gulfport, Mississippi, a gathering of family and friends at West Side Park turned into a scene of tragedy. On June 14, 2025, Rickey Damascus Durr, a 33-year-old Black male from Magee, was shot. The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. during what was described as a celebration. Emergency services were called to the park after reports of gunfire. Durr was quickly transported to Memorial Hospital, but he succumbed to a gunshot wound and died around 6:00 p.m.
