In a tragic turn of events on a summer night in North Platte, Nebraska, 37-year-old Christopher Kemp, a White male, lost his life in what authorities have described as a murder-suicide. The incident unfolded at a residence on West Second Street, where Christopher lived with his older brother.
The quiet of the evening was shattered when Christopherï s brother, 39-year-old James Kemp, contacted police and informed them that he had shot his brother. This initiated a tense standoff as law enforcement, including crisis negotiators, arrived at the scene. The situation was further complicated by the presence of James's 11-year-old son inside the home. After several hours of negotiation, the boy was safely released.
Shortly after the child's release, a single gunshot was heard from within the house. When officers made entry, they discovered the bodies of both brothers. Christopher Kemp was found deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. James Kemp was also found deceased, having apparently taken his own life.
The Nebraska State Patrol is leading the investigation into the deaths. As the sole suspect, James Kemp, died at the scene, no arrests have been made in connection with Christopher Kempï s death. Because law enforcement was present at the time of the suicide, a Grand Jury investigation will be conducted.
