In the early morning hours of June 7, 2025, a chaotic scene unfolded in Scott, Louisiana, that tragically ended the life of 20-year-old Kylon Calais. The night began with a concert at a local nightclub, but as the event concluded, multiple fights erupted among the attendees. The violence was not contained within the club's walls; it spilled out into the surrounding area, moving across the street to the parking lot of a gas station on North Ambassador Caffery.
It was in this parking lot
that the altercation escalated with horrifying speed. Amidst the ongoing brawls, several gunshots were fired. When the chaos subsided, Kylon Calais was found on the ground, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Although responding officers from the Scott Police Department attempted to render aid, his injuries proved fatal, and he died at the scene. Another individual was also wounded in the shooting and was transported to a local hospital in a private vehicle; this second victim was reported to be in stable condition.
The investigation into the shooting led to several arrests in the following weeks. On June 13, Brendan Lantell Willis was taken into custody with the assistance of the Lafayette Police Department. He was charged with second-degree battery and principal to second-degree murder. A few days later, on June 18, a second suspect, Kobe Kendrell Smith, was arrested with the help of the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office and charged with second-degree murder. The investigation continued to unfold, and on July 15, a third suspect, 25-year-old Jakalrick Nicholas of Breaux Bridge, was arrested by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office. Nicholas faced charges of principal to second-degree murder and obstruction of justice. In the wake of the deadly shooting, it was also reported that several Scott police officers who had been working security at the nightclub on the night of the incident received suspensions.
