Responding to the second of such requests, police officers arrived at the residence and were met with a foul odor that hinted at the tragedy within.
Inside, they discovered a gruesome scene. Carter was found deceased in his bed, having sustained multiple gunshot and stab wounds. A bloody knife lay on the bed beside him, a silent testament to the violence that had occurred. The investigation quickly focused on a suspect close to home: Carter's 47-year-old mother, Krista Roy.
