In the early hours of August 9, 2025, the life of 38-year-old Birane Gaye was tragically cut short on the streets of Baltimore, Maryland. A Black male, Gaye was discovered in the 2500 block of West Franklin Street at approximately 1:07 a.m. suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The grim discovery was made after police responded to a ShotSpotter alert indicating gunfire in the area.
Emergency responders were quick to the scene, and Gaye was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical
attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced deceased a short time after his arrival. The cause of his death was officially ruled a shooting.
The investigation into the homicide of Birane Gaye led authorities to a suspect. In October 2025, the Baltimore Police Department announced that an arrest had been made in connection with the case. Twenty-four-year-old Dajuan Heath was taken into custody and subsequently charged with the murder of Gaye. Heath was one of 21 suspects arrested in a month-long push by the department to close homicide and non-fatal shooting cases.
