In the small town of Summerville, Georgia, a Friday afternoon was shattered by violence that ended the life of 27-year-old Christopher 'DJ' Chapman. On June 6, 2025, at approximately 12:36 p.m., police responded to a call about a gunshot wound on Oak Street. There, in the middle of the roadway, they discovered Chapman, unresponsive with a severe gunshot wound to his chest.
Emergency personnel worked to stabilize him at the scene before he was rushed to Chattooga ER, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The investigation quickly pointed to a physical altercation that had taken place just before the shooting. The dispute reportedly escalated when one of the men involved drew a pistol and fired, striking Chapman. The alleged shooter was identified as 24-year-old Deoveon Price, also a resident of Summerville. Following the incident, Price fled the scene in a vehicle.
A coordinated effort by multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Summerville Police Department, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office, the Lookout Mountain Drug Task Force, and the Georgia State Patrol, led to a swift apprehension. A short time after the shooting, Price was located and taken into custody without incident during a traffic stop on Taylors Ridge. He was reportedly driving a different vehicle at the time of his arrest.
Deoveon Price was subsequently charged with Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. He was booked into the Chattooga County Jail. The investigation into the motive and the relationship between Chapman and Price is ongoing, with early indications suggesting the conflict may have been a spontaneous, personal dispute. Chapman, who was employed with Northwest Georgia Paving, left behind a wife, a son, and a daughter.
