In a quiet, middle-class neighborhood in Locust Grove, Georgia, a domestic disturbance escalated into a fatal shooting on the morning of June 25, 2025. James Calvin Miller Jr., a 39-year-old Black or African American male, was shot and killed inside a two-story home on Weymouth Drive in the Bridle Creek subdivision.
When Locust Grove police arrived at the residence around 9 a.m. following reports of gunfire, they found a chaotic and dangerous scene.
Shots were still being fired from within the house through rear windows and walls. Officers were preparing to enter the home when the suspect, James Calvin Miller, emerged from the front door and surrendered.
Inside, authorities discovered the body of his son, James Calvin Miller Jr., in a downstairs bedroom, deceased from a gunshot wound. An injured woman, identified as the suspect's wife and the victim's stepmother, was found hiding in an upstairs bathroom. She was transported to Piedmont Henry Hospital for her injuries and was released later that night.
The elder James Calvin Miller was taken into custody at the scene and booked into the Henry County Sheriff's Office Jail that same day. He is facing multiple charges, including murder, two counts of aggravated assault, aggravated battery with family violence, and battery under the family violence act. He is being held without bond. Police recovered approximately three guns from the home. While authorities noted that the suspect was intoxicated during the incident, a clear motive for the shooting has not been determined.
