In the late hours of a Wednesday night in Coralville, Iowa, a disturbance shattered the quiet of the Western Hills Estates manufactured housing community. Just before midnight on June 11, 2025, police were dispatched to a residence on Highway 6 following reports of a dispute that had escalated to gunfire. Inside, they found 27-year-old Mason Chance Edwards, a White male, who had been shot twice in the chest.
Despite efforts to render aid, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident and have stated that there is no immediate threat to the public. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is assisting the Coralville Police in their ongoing investigation. At this time, no arrests have been made in connection with the homicide, and authorities have not released any information about a potential suspect or suspects. Police have appealed to the public for any information regarding the case.
Mason Chance Edwards, born on September 13, 1997, in Iowa City, was a graduate of Clear Creek Amana High School and was employed at Capstone Logistics. His personal history was not without turmoil. In June of 2018, Edwards himself had been accused of shooting an individual in the same mobile home park. He had also faced other charges in the past, and at the time of his death, had active charges against him from a recent incident in another county. It remains unknown if any of these past events are connected to his death.
He is survived by his two daughters, Sophia and Octavia, his parents, and his siblings. His family held a visitation and a graveside service in the days following his death. An educational fund was established for his daughters in his memory.
