In the small town of Blue River, Colorado, south of Breckenridge, the life of 32-year-old Jordan Elizabeth Labarre was tragically cut short on the evening of July 7, 2025. A female, Labarre was found deceased inside a residence in what authorities would soon investigate as a homicide. The events of that night unfolded dramatically, beginning with a 911 call reporting shots fired in the 100 block of Aspen Meadow Circle.
When officers from the Blue River Police Department and other
agencies arrived at the scene around 6:20 p.m., they heard more gunfire coming from within the home. A tense standoff ensued as police surrounded the house and ordered the occupant to come out. A 46-year-old man named Daniel Joseph DeVito eventually complied and was taken into custody without incident. Upon entering the home, law enforcement discovered Labarre's body. An autopsy would later confirm that she died from a gunshot wound to the head. It is believed she had attempted to lock herself in the master bedroom to escape DeVito before he forced the door open and shot her.
In the days following the incident, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation took the lead on the case and obtained an arrest warrant for DeVito, charging him with first-degree murder. DeVito was already being held at the Summit County Detention Facility on unrelated charges stemming from an incident that occurred just days before Labarre's death. He was accused of assaulting and threatening another woman at the same residence. In that case, he allegedly held the woman against her will, threatened her with a knife, and told her he would 'blow her head off.'
While the exact nature of the relationship between Labarre and DeVito was not officially released, some reports indicated they may have been romantically involved at some point. Her brother stated that her life was taken in an act of domestic violence. DeVito, who made statements to police about the 'cartel' being after him, had his bond set at $2.5 million. He faces a slew of charges in addition to murder, including assault, menacing with a deadly weapon, and false imprisonment related to the earlier incident.
