On August 14, 2024, a 73-year-old man, Peter K. Frankson, Alaskan Native Male, was found on the living room floor of a home on the eastern side of Point Hope, Alaska, near AJ's Store. Officers with the North Slope Borough Police Department arrived after a 5:30 p.m. dispatch call and medics pronounced him dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head. The following day, local emergency officials reassured residents there was no ongoing threat to the community.
