On Christmas Eve of 1992, a horrific scene unfolded in Prince Edward County, Virginia, forever altering the lives of one family. George Atkinson Sr., a 47-year-old Black male, was at his home with his 24-year-old son, George Atkinson Jr., and two friends, 31-year-old Jeffrey Villalobos and 24-year-old William B. Cutter. The festive evening turned into a tragedy when all four men were shot and killed inside the residence. After the killings, the house was deliberately set on fire in an apparent attempt to conceal the brutal acts that had taken place.
The investigation into the quadruple homicide led authorities to two brothers, Michael and Johnny Williams. Investigators concluded that on that Christmas Eve, the Williams brothers entered the Atkinson home and carried out the execution-style murders of George Atkinson Sr. and the three other men, each of whom was shot in the head. Following the shootings, they set the home ablaze.
In the months following the murders, the investigation progressed, leading to the arrest of Michael Wayne Williams on March 3, 1993, in Kingsland, Georgia. He was charged with capital murder for the four killings. His younger brother, Johnny Williams, was also charged with four counts of capital murder in connection with the Christmas Eve slayings. The legal proceedings appeared to focus primarily on Michael Williams, and publicly available information has not indicated any other suspects in this devastating crime.
