On May 23, 1988, 37-year-old Mary Elaine Shereika, a female, went for an early morning jog near her home in Gambrills, Maryland, a routine she followed before heading to her job as a paralegal. When she failed to return, her fiancé reported her missing. Later that day, a farmer discovered her partially clothed body in a rye field he was plowing. An investigation revealed that she had been sexually assaulted, beaten, stabbed, and ultimately strangled to death.
