In the winter of 1979, a horrific crime cut short the life of 11-month-old Jessica Madison in Adrian, Michigan. The infant girl died of smoke inhalation in a house fire deliberately set to conceal a brutal double murder. Her mother, 24-year-old Yolanda Torres Madison, and a friend, 19-year-old Theresa Carey, were both beaten and shot to death inside the home before the fire was started.
For decades, the case remained cold, leaving a community in fear and a family without answers.
The investigation into the deaths of Jessica, Yolanda, and Theresa languished for over 30 years. However, with advancements in technology and the emergence of new witnesses, cold case investigators were able to finally identify a suspect. In 2010, Anthony Guy Walker, a career criminal with a history of violent sexual offenses, was charged with the murders. By the time of his arrest for the triple homicide, Walker was already serving time for other crimes.
During his trial, Anthony Guy Walker pleaded guilty to the murders of Yolanda Madison and Theresa Carey. He admitted to breaking into the home with the intent to rob it, then tying up and beating both women before fatally shooting them. However, he denied setting the fire that led to the death of baby Jessica. In a stunning turn of events, Walker also confessed to several other murders, including the 1975 killing of Arleen Salcedo, whose body was found in a field near Blissfield. In exchange for his extensive confessions, Walker was not prosecuted for the additional murders he admitted to committing. He was sentenced to life in prison for the murders of Yolanda Madison and Theresa Carey.
