On the night of March 8, 1965, 38-year-old Hispanic woman Sylvia Valdez was murdered in Miami, Florida, in a case that would later be linked to a string of unsolved killings attributed to the so-called "Miami Strangler." Sylvia Valdez had left her workplace around 9:00 p.m. and walked to the parking lot where her car was parked. Upon discovering a flat tire, she waited for assistance. A parking lot attendant eventually changed the tire at approximately 10:30 p.m.
and observed Valdez speaking with two Cuban men as he departed.
The following morning, the body of 38-year-old Hispanic woman Sylvia Valdez was discovered inside her vehicle. A black silk scarf had been tightly wrapped around her neck, and her skirt was pulled over her head. She had been shot twice behind the right ear with a. 22 caliber pistol. Although her purse, shoes, and car keys were missing, other valuables—including a diamond ring—remained untouched. Authorities determined that she had not been sexually assaulted, though the staging of the scene suggested a sexually motivated crime.
