Jenny Han-Chi Lin, a 14-year-old Asian American girl, was brutally murdered on May 27, 1994, in her family’s home in Castro Valley, California. A gifted student and talented musician, Jenny had just turned 14 two days earlier and was preparing to graduate as valedictorian from Canyon Middle School. That Friday afternoon, she returned home alone to the family’s residence in the quiet Palomares Hills neighborhood. She made a few phone calls to friends and was last heard from around 5:15 p.m.
When her father arrived home at 6:45 p.m., he discovered the television still on and the back door unlocked. Upstairs, he found the body of his 14-year-old daughter, Jenny Han-Chi Lin, in the bathroom, lying in a pool of blood.
