Tiffany Johnston, a 19-year-old white female from La Marque, Texas, was newly married when she disappeared on July 26, 1997. She was last seen at a car wash in Bethany, Oklahoma, just outside Oklahoma City. Her car was discovered abandoned at the Sunshine Car Wash with the keys still in the ignition, her money left inside, and the floor mats hanging in the wash bay. There were no immediate witnesses or signs of struggle at the scene.
The following day, the body of the 19-year-old white female was found in tall grass near a rural road off the interstate in Yukon, Oklahoma, approximately 15 miles from where she vanished. She had been sexually assaulted and strangled, and was found wearing only a bikini top. Although DNA evidence was recovered from her body, investigators were initially unable to develop a profile, and the case went cold for nearly two decades.
In 2016, a breakthrough came when DNA evidence linked the murder of the 19-year-old white female to William Lewis Reece, a convicted rapist already serving a 60-year sentence in Texas for a 1997 kidnapping. Reece, who had previously served time for two rapes in Oklahoma in the 1980s, began confessing to multiple murders in Texas and Oklahoma after being approached by a Texas Ranger. He admitted to killing Tiffany Johnston, along with three other young women during a violent spree
