Wayne Shugar, a 61-year-old Caucasian male, was tragically murdered alongside his wife, Vicky Shugar, in their home in Brockway, Pennsylvania. The couple was found shot to death in the basement of their residence. The crime occurred between April 10 and April 12, 2010, and authorities launched an extensive investigation into the double homicide.
Law enforcement officials identified Steven Patrick Rebert, a 45-year-old male, as the primary suspect in the case.
Rebert, who had previously lived in Oakfield, New York, was linked to the crime through DNA evidence. Investigators discovered that DNA from Wayne Shugar was found on one of Rebert’s work boots, further implicating him in the murders. Additionally, neighbors recalled seeing a suspicious vehicle parked near the Shugar residence in early March 2010, which was later traced back to Rebert.
Authorities also uncovered disturbing details about Rebert’s past. He was suspected of involvement in at least two other unsolved murders in Genesee and Orleans counties, New York. His computer search history revealed that he had looked up information about the Shugar murders multiple times between April 13 and April 15, shortly after the crime occurred. This digital evidence, combined with forensic findings, strengthened the case against him.
Rebert was arrested and charged with the murders of Wayne and Vicky Shugar. During his trial, he was found guilty on all counts of criminal homicide. The court proceedings highlighted his connection to the victims, as he had reportedly visited the flower shop owned by Vicky Shugar before the crime. Authorities continued to investigate his potential involvement in other homicides, but his conviction for the Shugar murders ensured that he would face justice for his actions.
