Mia Smith, a 29-year-old woman, was found strangled in the sixth-floor stairway of the Royal Towers Apartments in Kansas City, Missouri, on March 30, 1994. Her death was one of several suspicious incidents that occurred in the apartment building around that time. Authorities suspected Clifton Lee Ray Jr., a known criminal with a history of violent offenses, but he was never formally charged in connection with her murder.
