Eunsoon Pamela Jun, a 45-year-old Korean-American woman, was a chemist working for a biotech company in California. She was known for her intelligence and artistic nature, particularly her love for pottery. In December 1999, Eunsoon introduced her family to her new boyfriend, Larry Vanner, a handyman. She seemed deeply in love, and soon after, Vanner moved into her Richmond, California, home. However, her friends and family noticed that she was gradually becoming isolated from them.
By June 2002, she had completely cut off contact, raising concerns among those close to her.
When Eunsoon's loved ones attempted to reach out, Vanner always had an excuse for her absence. He claimed she was caring for her sick mother or checking on another property they owned. Eventually, one of Eunsoon's friends reported her disappearance to the police, prompting a search of her home. Authorities discovered an unusual pile of cat litter in a crawl space, with electrical cords and wires hanging above it. Upon further investigation, they uncovered a mummified foot wearing a flip-flop, along with other body parts. The remains were identified as Eunsoon Jun, and it was determined that she had been killed by blunt force trauma to the head, then dismembered and discarded.
Suspicion immediately fell on Vanner, who had attempted to cover up the crime. Investigators found that a man matching his description had purchased ten bags of cat litter from a nearby pet store around the time of Eunsoon's disappearance. In November 2002, he was arrested and charged with her murder. When authorities ran his fingerprints, they discovered that he was wanted for a parole violation under the name Robert “Bob” Evans. Further investigation revealed that he had used multiple aliases, including Curtis Kimball and Gordon Jensen. He was also linked to a child abandonment case and several other crimes.
In 2003, under the name Robert Evans, Eunsoon's supposed husband pleaded guilty to her murder and was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison. Later, investigators connected him to the infamous Bear Brook murders, a case involving the deaths of a woman and three young girls in New Hampshire. Evans, whose real name was Terry Peder Rasmussen, was suspected of killing multiple victims over several decades. He died in prison in 2010, leaving behind a chilling legacy as a serial killer. Eunsoon Jun's tragic death was one of many in his long history of violence.
