Damon Omir Walker, a 37-year-old African-American male, was inside a Las Vegas apartment on March 11, 2014, when his life was cut short in a hail of bullets. The shooting occurred around 6 a.m. at an apartment situated near downtown Las Vegas on Bonanza Road. Assailants outside the residence fired multiple shots through a window, striking Walker and another man who was also inside.
The Clark County Coroner's office later confirmed that Walker died at the scene from gunshot wounds to the jaw and neck. The second victim survived with injuries to his hip and foot.
The investigation into the shooting uncovered a motive rooted in retaliation for a prior crime. Detectives with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department learned that the day before the deadly shooting, a robbery had taken place at a known drug house. The brother of a witness present in the apartment with Walker was reportedly involved in that robbery, where Lawrence Reddick was the victim at a property belonging to Anthony Smith. This event is believed to have triggered the subsequent violent act that claimed Walker's life.
Following a lengthy investigation that spanned four years, law enforcement officials made several arrests in connection with Damon Walker's murder. The suspects, identified as Anthony Smith, 48, Rufus Smith, 58, and Carnell Duhon, 48, were apprehended and charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Later, on June 19, 2018, Lawrence Reddick, then 39, was also taken into custody and faced the same charges for his alleged role in the fatal shooting.
