Mandy Rubin, a 25-year-old Black woman who was killed on February 4, 2006, in her southwest Houston apartment. Her death bore striking similarities to the murder of Danielle Subjects, another Black woman who was killed in August 2005. Both victims were found nude in their apartments, their bodies positioned in a similar manner, and articles of clothing wrapped around their heads.
Additionally, their purses appeared to have been rummaged through, and Rubin’s cell phone was missing from her apartment.
Authorities identified Edward George McGregor as a suspect in Rubin’s case, along with the murders of Danielle Subjects and Edwina Latriss Barnum. McGregor, a 33-year-old man at the time, had previously been charged with the 1990 murder of Kim Wildman in Fort Bend County. Investigators linked him to Barnum’s 1994 murder through DNA evidence, which ultimately led to his arrest. While McGregor was a suspect in Rubin’s case, he had not been formally charged in her death at the time of reporting.
Police continued to examine evidence from past cases to determine if McGregor was connected to additional crimes. His arrest was part of a broader investigation into multiple homicides spanning several years. Authorities worked to establish definitive links between McGregor and the victims, including Mandy Rubin, as they pursued justice for the women who had lost their lives under similar circumstances.
