Joan Hicks, a 48-year-old woman, was found murdered in her Moncton, New Brunswick apartment on February 28, 1998. She had been beaten, strangled, and her throat was cut with a serrated knife. Her 11-year-old daughter, Nina Hicks, was also killed, found hanging in her bedroom closet after being choked with a rope. The brutal nature of the crime shocked the community.
