On January 6, 2025, Devin Jadin Sanchez, a 17-year-old male, suffered fatal injuries when he was shot multiple times in the driveway of a residence located in the 1900 block of Schley Avenue on San Antonio's East Side. Sanchez was not directly involved in the incident that led to his death, but was standing on the sidewalk nearby when the shooting occurred.
The incident stemmed from a weapons transaction arranged through Instagram.
Sanchez had been driven to the location by a friend, who remained in their vehicle across the street, while another individual conducted the weapon trade. The transaction was to take place with two individuals who arrived in a black Ford Bronco with a distinctive tire mounted on the rear.
During the exchange, as one of the participants was removing a mounted light from a weapon, the situation turned violent. The passenger of the Ford Bronco reportedly said "run that s--t," after which the driver pulled out a gun, shooting Sanchez and then shooting a second victim in the shoulder. Both assailants fled the scene northbound in the Bronco.
Following a Crime Stoppers tip released on January 9, 2025, investigators were able to locate the suspect vehicle. The investigation led to the arrest of Roberto Alejandro Elizondo, age 18, who was taken into custody at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, January 16. Elizondo was charged with murder after being positively identified by the surviving victim through a photo lineup. The second suspect who was present during the shooting has not been mentioned in arrest reports.
Devin is survived by his parents Bianca King and Edmundo Sanchez, his sister Davin Sanchez, and his grandparents Rose Brown-Ingle and Patrick Ingle, along with numerous extended family members and close friends throughout the community.
